4 Reasons You Need a Business Website

Watch the Video Summary of this Article HERE.

Websites are a passion of ours, and luckily it’s also our business. We get paid to help people create modern, beautiful websites that will help them achieve their goals. You’d think that makes us biased (and it probably does, a bit), but the reality is, having a website is crucial to most businesses today.

Reason # 1: Most of your target audience is online!

So what’s the big deal with websites anyway? Here’s the thing. We are in the digital age. Most of your potential market no longer takes time to look things up in a book or a directory. They go straight to Google and type in any question their curiosity can invent. They can uncover anything they might possibly want to know within minutes and all without ever leaving the couch. In fact, studies show that only 11% of Americans do not use the internet. Those same studies show that the majority of the 13% are over 65 years of age or live in rural areas. The bottom line is that you want to be in front of as many potential clients as possible. Most of them appear to be hanging out online. The web is too big and important of a space for a business to ignore.

If that isn’t enough to convince you, never fear. We have several more reasons why your business should have its own website.

Reason # 2: Unlike social media which was designed for interaction, a website is a controlled space.

You get to decide what you want your viewers to know about your business, and how that message will be presented. You can introduce them to your services, share your vision, and offer solutions to their needs. Show them your passion! Create a connection because we promise you that they can find a similar product or service somewhere else. It might even be cheaper. What they can’t find anywhere else is you. You are one of a kind, and you need a place to share that with the world. Your first impression and your reputation are all you really have, and if you are not online or if your online presence is slow, refusing to load, unorganized, or causing their device to crash, you have just lost their interest. We believe, I mean, really believe that a gorgeous, easy to navigate website is the almost always the best way to share yourself with those around you.

Reason #3: A website is the only way to get in front of all your future fans without relying on or being restricted by a particular platform.

While there are plenty of social media platforms out there, you will always be confined to their “look” and requirements. We know that popular site such as Facebook, Pinterest, and twitter can be extremely effective, but you are severely limiting who will find your business. First of all, these platforms require accounts and not everyone uses social media (although for some of us that’s hard to believe!). Besides that, someone essentially has to already know about you to see what you post – meaning they have to like your page or be your friend already. So, many people, who would love your products and services, will never know about you because they cannot find you. There is certainly the ability to pay for advertising on these platforms, which can be a great option, so we wanted to mention that as well.

Let’s not forget that you will also be limited by regulations, filters, and a lack of customization depending on which platform you’re on. I mean, your page really will look like any other page. Not to mention that you will have to start over if these platforms ever go the way of MySpace, Friendster, and Xanga, Say what? Yeah, I know! Ask any teenager if they have ever even heard of these relics and watch their eyes glaze over.

The 4th and final reason for believing that most businesses would benefit from an awesome website is that it is the best way to market yourself.

Yes, we know that you can buy Facebooks ads or sign up for Pay per click (PPC) advertising. You can rent a billboard or send out flyers, but it’s just not the same. Besides, where are you sending these leads? You can hand out cards all day, but if there isn’t a site or virtual store they can visit, you will probably never hear from them again. People are taught to read reviews and research options. A phone number and email just aren’t enough these days. It’s the digital age and people not only want to know what they are paying for, but also how you are going to solve their dilemma. They want this information to be appealing, easy to access, and completely comprehensive. Think of your target audience. Talk to some of them. What are they looking for? How are you going to tailor what you are doing to meet their needs?

We know that nothing is one size fits all, and while we would like to think that everyone needs an amazing site, that simply isn’t the case. If your target audience is over 65 or if they live in rural areas with poor internet access, a website isn’t that big of a deal. If you are so busy filling orders or are already running at capacity, keep doing what you are doing. It would seem that what your system has already been perfected. Do you cater to a very exclusive clientele that is only reached through appointments and referrals? Maybe a website isn’t something you should focus on.

“But what if I don’t need a huge website?”

There are some of you who need something smaller than a full website. Maybe you just need a way to attract new clients to your Etsy shop or maybe you want a way to post announcements. Perhaps you aren’t ready to start your business, but you would like a place to send future clients and investors for more information. If a “Landing Page” is what you need, we just finished two webinars on how to build your own website. If you would like to receive a playback of that webinar, please contact us.
